Janie Acosta
For 28 years Janie Acosta has been dedicated to walking, as an agent of support and care, alongside individuals as they make their way in the journey of aging and end of life transition. She began her career at the age of 20 as she worked in an assisted living community as a certified nurses assistant caring for the elderly while attending a vocational school for nursing. This is where she fell in love with the elderly population and found her calling in the healthcare industry. She obtained her LVN license and began a thriving career in assisted living, home health and hospice care. Because of her love for the field and her patients she eventually obtained her BS in nursing at West Coast university and became a registered nurse. Janie is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to all those she is entrusted to do so and is currently the Executive Director of Vista Del Mar in Long Beach California. She is currently working toward her Masters Degree in Nursing at West Coast University to obtain her Adult Geriatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner License. She passionately believes that aging is a dynamic process, that no one should die alone, and that all humans are complex beings deserving of dignity and respect as they move through these experiences. She is guided by the understanding that it is an honor to walk with people through their end of life journey, and that dignity, community, and agency are vital to guiding this process. On weekends Janie can often be found enjoying her other passion for sailing out on the Pacific Coast. She is engaged to her partner, Jayna Zimmelman, and they share a home with their son, Lucas, two chihuahuas, and a very sassy orange cat.
